The European Commission will unveil a review of tobacco tax rules as well as an action plan on sustainable industrial policy to give a boost to more environmentally friendly products, while the French presidency will host agriculture and social affairs ministers for early discussions on some of Brussels' recent proposals.

Next week will be marked by the launch of the EU's Union for the Mediterranean, as well as by French President Nicolas Sarkozy's presentation in the European Parliament of his priorities for France's six-month EU presidency. Meanwhile, leaders of the G8 will meet in Tokyo and try to cobble together a united response to soaring food and oil prices.
